Discovering the best Router Cabinet
A Router Bench without a Router Cabinet is just a Table stand that gives you nowhere to store your Router Cutting bits. A decent router cabinet has place for you to store your router, your router cutting bits and your router tools. Space for your smaller jigs is also important.

My router cabinet would be part of the router bench allowing easy access to the router from the rear of the cabinet. I would have a pair of wheels to assist in moving the cabinet out of the way when not in use. In essence my ideal Router Bench and Router cabinet combo would need to be mobile and also be multi functional. Now I am not suggesting that your outer bench be used as a general workbench but often you need somewhere to plan and think. In a small shop you need space so a multifunctional unit is far more flexible.
The Router Bench would fit onto the top of my Router Cabinet with the Router centrally mounted toward the rear of the unit,
I would have a few shallow drawers in front of the router for router cutting bit storage and for small accesories like the router collets, the spanners and any mounting plates, The switch would be directly above the drawers. It is very inconvenient to have to run around the back of the router cabinet to turn the router on and off. On either side of the router there would be full length drawers for storing things like circle jigs, safety gear and other mid sized accessories.
I would have a deep full depth drawer below that for the router itself, maybe the fence and a few of the power tools lying around the shops could also be stored here. My Router Cabinet would then have a cupboard with shelving either to the right or the left to store all those bulky items that are excluded from the other drawers.
I hope you have realised that I am talking about a sizeable unit here. Most of my power tools will now have storage accommodation, from the circ saw to the drill.
